Indian food is one of the most celebrated cuisines of the world but when it comes to serving authentic flavors there are only a few restaurants in India & abroad which can really manage.
Going by my experience honestly I wasn’t expecting much from my visit to ‘India On My Plate’ restaurant since it is a part of Fortune Select Excalibur chain of Hotels. Mostly 4 stars & five stars hotels in India prepare Indian delicacies keeping in mind foreigners so the spices are added in the same proportion as continental cuisine. It may be good for foreigners but people like me who are in constant search of right flavors, it is disappointing!
However on visiting ‘India On My Plate’ I was at the receiving end of a pleasant surprise!
Location:
The restaurant is located on the first floor of Hotel which stands tall bang on Sohna Road of Gurgaon. So it is really easy to find the Indian theme cuisine.
I will give its location a 5/5 rating.
Ambiance:
As you enter you definitely get a feel of Indian heritage. It is a fine dining kind of setup with many amazing dishes to try. Murals and painting enhance the feel of place plus the live music enliven the restaurant. Infant high chairs are also available. Apart from this, there is seating arrangement at the poolside also.
I will give its ambiance 4/5 rating.
Service:

Ram Laddu tasted good.
The service was excellent and spot on. The servers had an excellent understanding of the menu. Presentation of the food was very nice. I would like to specially mention about the timing. The server assured that we were never sitting without food, one after another the food came on to our plates. The manager of the restaurant paid two visits to our table to make sure we were getting desired service & were comfortable.
I will give their service 4.5/5 rating.
Food:

In the starters, we had Galaouti Kebab which were melt-in-mouth and perfectly spiced.

Macchi Konkani..
Murgh Malai Siya came next which had a layer of malai inside. It wasn’t that spicy per its name.

Dahi ke Kebabas is one thing I would give a pass on.

Bhutta Mutter Shaami was simply excellent from the vegetarian starters menu. The flavors of Corn and Peas both came out really well.

Purani Delhi ka meat curry..

Mutton Biryani..
In main course, Mutton Biryani and Puraani Delhi ka meat curry stood out for us. It was perfectly spiced and had that desi touch of which Puraani Dili is famous for.
In deserts, there is a gamut of variety from all across the country.
Paneer Jalebi, Amritsari Badami Phiri & Ras malai are highly recommended from my side. While leaving the place paan is served which is quite refreshing for the palate. Alongside there is full-service bar which is tempting. Portion size is good.
I will give its food a 4.5/5 rating.
Verdict:
As the name suggest this restaurant is an honest attempt to bring the true flavors from various states of India on your plate. There is simply a spectacular variety in terms of flavors which is going to attract customers from all parts of India. The live music is subtle and not garish which takes your food experience to another level. On Sohna Road, Gurgaon this restaurant is highly recommended. Also for family functions and parties the restaurant, in my opinion, is an excellent choice as it’s a combination of luxury and India.
Based on the average of all the ratings given above, the overall experiential quotient of this restaurant comes to be 4.5/5.
